Hannah's Graduation

Our travels took us to Atlanta last weekend to watch Hannah graduate from high school.  It was a fun weekend of family, and we couldn't have been more proud of Hannah.  Here's just a few shots from the weekend.

Baby Shower for Cate

On Sunday after Julie's graduation, my aunts in Hot Springs had a baby shower for Baby Cate.  They did a great job decorating and the food was excellent....I needed a nap after all that sugar!

The sugary cupcakes they served.

The diaper cake topper was Cate's name made out of polymer clay.  My aunt made it so that we could put toothpicks in the bottom of each letter and there's a hole in the top of each the size of a candle, so now we're all set for Cate's first birthday!

The diaper cake was adorable.  They did the letters as I already mentioned.  They made a stork to stick out of the top, the spoons surrounded the cake like candles and each had a little hair bow on them, so now I have hair bows too.  Every detail was just perfect!

The hostesses and I (Aunt Kim, my cousin Erin, Elizabeth, Aunt Mitch and little Clara).

Miss Clara who just celebrated her 1st birthday at the start of May.  She is just adorable, and she was so good the entire party.

Cate's first polo outfit.  Her daddy like the little pony.

Monogramed sleeper and bib, everything we got was just so cute.  We now have closet full of great things for her to wear!

Her first tutu, though it will be many years before she can fit into this one!

The "happy holidays" basket from my cousins, Claire, Marcus and Isaac.  They had something in there for every occasion!  Cate's a lucky girl to have such fun cousins!

Dr. Julie (Bodemann) Goodwin

The weekend following my graduation I headed home to Arkansas for my sister's graduation from med school.  Woo Hoo says it all....Julie used this phrase quite frequently in the months before her wedding, so when Lanny and I found this card it was perfect.  What's even funnier is that we found the card at two separate times, so she got one from each of us.

Mom and Dad gave Julie my dad's doctor bag he used when he was in residency at UAMS....we even found some old hemoccult cards (yuck) and reference books too.  It was pretty cool to actually see a doctor's bag again, now all the docs use handheld references, and have pockets packed to the gills.

This photo is from the hooding ceremony on Friday night before graduation.  The medical school does a very nice private ceremony for each of the students to be recognized.  They also invite members of their families who are physicians to come up on stage with the graduate to help "hood" them.  So this is my dad helping place Julie's hood on her.

Julie and I with Naresh and Naveen Pemmaraju.  We have gone to school with these boys since I was in first grade and Julie and Naresh since they were pre-schoolers.  I haven't seen Naveen in years, but he's still the same nice guy he's been all those years ago in elementary school!

Julie and her roommate Laurel.  Laurel is such a sweet person, I know Julie is going to miss living with her.  Laurel is headed to Tulsa for OB and Julie is headed to St. Louis for OB this summer.  I know we'll be seeing Laurel again in the future.

Julie just after she received her diploma and walked across the stage.  She was all smiles all weekend.

Dr and Mr Goodwin.

I tease only John....John doesn't technically become Dr. Goodwin until June when UT Southwestern has their graduation, so he got some ribbing all weekend that Julie was the first Dr. Goodwin.

Congratulations Julie, we couldn't be more proud of you or love you more!

Carolyn's Graduation

May has been an incredibly busy and exhausting month around our house.  We've had 3 graduations to attend, a baby shower and just getting the house ready for Cate's arrival.

To start, I participated in graduation at Duke on Mother's Day.  I say it like that because I technically graduate with my masters in nursing in September after I complete the 3 credit hours remaining this summer.  But nonetheless, it was my graduation weekend, so the whole the family was here to celebrate (and see the growing belly!)

Duke does a large commencement with all the graduates (graduate schools and undergraduates), followed by private ceremonies done by each school.  This is the number of people who showed up for graduation this year....I was just amazed by how many people were there (and I love the all the colors of everyone's hoods).

I am fairly certain the reason everyone showed up is because Oprah was the commencement speaker this year.  Turns out, Gail's son (Auntie O's godson, she mentioned) graduated from the undergraduate program this year, so Auntie O came and gave the speech.  She was pretty good, but to be honest the med student who was a Duke undergrad and now Med School grad was a better speaker, but now I can say I saw in person and she spoke at my graduation!

The whole family outside the Duke Chapel after the School of Nursing's ceremony.  Luckily, the rain held off and we had a beautiful day.  You would think the robes might hide the belly a little more, but I think they just make you more rotund......
